a5c7b9f00b One night in Detroit, during a shoot-out at a chop shop, Detroit cop Axel Foley sees his boss, Inspector Douglas Todd, getting killed by a well dressed man. Using his last breath, Inspector Todd tells Axel to get the man who shot him, and Axel says that he will do that. Axel does some looking around, and finds the killer's vehicle at Wonder World, a theme park in Beverly Hills, California. In Beverly Hills, Axel is reunited with his friend Billy Rosewood, who tells Axel that John Taggart is now retired and living in Arizona. Billy is now the deputy director of operations for joint systems interdepartmental operational command (JSIOC). Billy also has a new partner named Jon Flint. Axel checks out Wonder World, which is owned by Dave "Uncle Dave" Thornton. At Wonder World, Axel rescues two kids who are stuck on a ride that broke down, and after this, Axel is taken to see the park's head of security, Ellis DeWald, and Axel recognizes DeWald as Inspector Todd's killer. Jon refuses to believe this, because DeWald is one of Jon's friends. Ellis runs a counterfeiting ring that uses the theme park as a front. Axel is also falling in love with Janice Perkins, who works at the park. When Dave gets shot by DeWald's men, Axel is accused of being the man who shot Dave. With the help of Billy and Jon, Axel sets out to prove his innocence and get revenge on DeWald.
In Detroit, Axel Foley leads a raid on a chop shop. When they go in, the people inside start shooting at them. Foley's boss, Inspector Todd, joins them. Someone shoots Todd and before dying Todd tells Foley to get him. Foley tries to catch him but some Feds stop him. They don't tell him why they're letting him get away. Based on things the shooters left behind, leads Foley to believe that the shooters have ties to an amusement park in Beverly Hills. So Foely goes there and asks his old friend, Billy Rosewood who's been promoted to a "prestigious position" for help. He meets Billy's new partner, Jon Flint. He asks if they know anyone at the amusement park and Flint tells him he knows the head of security, Ellis DeWald. Foley goes to the park and after a little misadventure, he meets DeWald and recognizes him as the man who killed Todd. But everybody including Flint tells Foley DeWald is a good guy. But Axel knows he's the one. He would be approached a park employee who tries to help him.
Beverly Hills Cop 3 (1994)

Plot In A Paragraph: Axel Foley (Murphy) returns to Beverly Hills tracking a killer.

I remember being excited when this was first announced, as Initially, the plot for this film would've concerned Foley, Rosewood, and Taggart going to London (This excites me a great deal, as this was back in my autograph hunting (celeb stalking) days, and I went to London frequently!!) to rescue Captain Bogomil, who was being held hostage during a International Police Convention. Sean Connery was going to play a Scotland Yard detective. However, pre-production dragged on so long that John Aston (Taggart) and Ronny Cox (Bogermill) had to drop out, due to other commitments . Taggart is mention having retired, but Bogermill is not mentioned.

With Ashton being out, all his dialogue was given to a new character in John Flint (Hector Elizondo) he is Taggart in every way but name. His character has no point or purpose. It makes zero sense for him to get so involved in Axel being there. Personally they should have wrote him out, and left as Foley & Rosewood.

The movie is uneven. Despite having several F-Bombs, it's very tame!! The violence is seriously toned down, and not very dramatic or exciting. I remember a movie magazine interview, Eddie Murphy said that the film is "different from the other two movies, as Axel is mature and not a rookie cop anymore." He said this was as wanted to be taken seriously like Denzel Washington. Director John Landis claimed that Eddie Murphy worked against the comedy of the film by deliberately not being funny.

Reinhold does what Reinhold does, Elizondo has a thankless task replacing Taggart, John Saxon is as reliable as always Theresa Randle looks gorgeous whilst Timothy Calhart is in full pantomime villain mode.

Random notes: My dvd is cut!! When he is talking to the widow. He says "His last words were about you" and the widow replies "That does not sound like him" before he reveals what the real last words were. I've not seen the movie since the cinema, but I recall him telling her a lie about his last words "Tell my wife I always loved her" type of thing!! I still remember the George Lucas cameo, Murphy's stunt man is considerably heavier than Murphy and I'd love to be a police officer in a world where the bad guys never hit the good guy, no matter how many bullets the shoot at him, but the cop always hits the mark first time, when returning fire.

I don't hate this movie, like with Another 48 Hours, compared to the others, it's really weak, but on its own it's not that bad, it's certainly watchable, and I'm sure I'll watch worse Murphy movies as I go along.

Beverly Hills Cop 3 became the second Murphy movie in a row to lose money at the domestic box office, as it grossed $42 million (against a budget of $55 million) at the box office to end 1994, the 34th highest grossing movie of the year.
While I was disappointed with this movie overall, it does have its moments. Hector Elizondo adds some genuine quirkiness, the car chase set-piece is impressive, there is the odd fun visual joke and the production values are pretty good. However, there are a lot of things that make this film for me the weakest of the three. The story is very unoriginal and predictable, the script is pretty poor, John Landis gives one of his weaker directorial jobs, the film isn't as assuredly paced and neither Eddie Murphy or Judge Reinhold come across as likable this time around. Overall, I wouldn't say it was a complete disaster but it is a big disappointment compared to the wonderful original.(the second was disappointing too but watchable) 4/10 Bethany Cox
Beverly Hills Cop III is made with so little spark, humor, and internal logic that it makes me better appreciate these other recent Murphy movies where the actor/comedian at least stretched his persona and attempted something apart from the action comedy mold.
